End-of-Life Care Conversations

We offered this webinar on March 10, 2016 and January 24, 2017.

When a patient’s disease is incurable, healthcare professionals are faced with the stressful task of communicating that the end of life is near. “Having the conversation” takes time, sensitivity and compassion.

When performed skillfully, these conversations can strengthen doctor-patient relationships and increase the likelihood that patients will choose appropriate treatment options, such as hospice.

This webinar helps healthcare professionals enhance their communication skills and confidence in having this important conversation.

Key points of this webinar:

  • Address the barriers to having the conversation
  • Assess how much your patient understands about their disease and how ready they are to discuss end of life
  • Recognize and interpret a patient's reaction, whether appropriate or inappropriate
  • Share information with empathy
